The Bristol Aircraft Company
Bristol Aviation origin was slightly different. Sir George White was already a very successful businessman before he formed the original British and Colonial Aeroplane Company. This went on very quickly to be known as the Bristol Aeroplane Company, who by 1910 were building the Bristol Boxkite. It was realised that flying schools would be needed to train pilots and by 1914, half of all RFC pilots had learnt to fly Bristol aircraft at either Brooklands or Larkhill.
Bristols went on to build a range of successful military aircraft from 1911 until the early 1950s. Then three iconic aircraft, the Bristol Freighter, the Bristol Brabazon and the Bristol Britannia were constructed along with Helicopters and Aero Engines.
Bristol Aviation became one of the founder members of the British Aircraft Corporation and as such were heavily involved with the production of Concorde.
